What is the Gottman Method?

The Gottman Method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy designed to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen emotional connection. Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, it emphasizes building a strong foundation of friendship and trust through "Love Maps," nurturing fondness and admiration, and turning toward each other’s bids for connection. It focuses on managing conflict constructively, avoiding the "Four Horsemen" (criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling), and using repair attempts to maintain harmony. With tools like the Sound Relationship House theory, structured assessments, and tailored interventions, the method helps couples deepen intimacy, create shared meaning, and build resilience in their relationship.

TESTIMONIALS

"Andrew was amazing—kind, empathetic, wise, intelligent, and intuitive. He obviously cares about the people he counsels, embraces 'why' of what he does, and is truly making a positive difference by sharing his gift with others."

"Andrew is the absolute BEST! My husband who has always said he’d never go to counseling went when we were at a deadlock with how to communicate after 23 years of marriage. He agreed to go just one time. We did Zoom afterwards and he looked forward to each visit. Andrew gave really really good guidance on how to get back to communicating. I can’t say we are “fixed” after 3 visits with Andrew but I can say we are communicating 100% more thoughtfully with each other."
